Sunday Scaries

Ignoring the present, by being dreadfully focused on tomorrow’s work stress is a foolproof way to rob you of your happiness and taint your time. Mindfulness is the perfect weapon to squelch your Sunday Scaries. Mindfulness relieves you of such rumination and worry by redirecting your attention to what is occurring in the present moment.

How to be Mindful: 

  • Observe:  Notice what is happening outside of yourself and inside of yourself without applying words. (Do not apply further evaluation, judgement, nor decipher meaning)

  • Describe:  Silently use words to describe what you observe:  What do you see, hear, touch, taste, and smell. (Describe just the facts, no judgements)

  • Participate:  Engage fully in the moment by becoming one with whatever you are doing. Effortly, disengage from other thoughts and actions outside of this moment 

Also, a morning coffee from your favorite cafe on Monday mornings will give you something to look forward. Or plan to wear your favorite work outfit. What I am trying to say is, add something special to your Monday routine. And, always remind yourself, that our brains are very dramatic and the anticipation is almost always worse than the reality of work on Monday. Reflect when you get to work on Monday, or reflect about last Monday, was it as bad as you thought? Chances are not.
