Anxious Parents can raise Fearless Children

Anxiety can be passed down to your children because your children are a product of their environment and many of their behaviors are learned from you.

Children learn what is real from what’s not through you. You are their guide in understanding this world. Therefore if you act fearful or anxious during normal daily situations then the child learns that those normal daily situations are unsafe or something to become stressed about.

Additionally, there is a genetic risk of your children developing an anxiety disorder if you or your spouse have an anxiety disorder. Fortunately this doesn’t guarantee your child will develop an anxiety disorder, and there are ways to minimize their risk.

Managing your anxiety is the best thing you can do to decrease the risk of passing anxiety to your children. Children will then learn healthy behaviors AND you can teach your children anxiety management techniques as well.
